The Cross Shots - Headwind

Powerful, profound, and poetic, at times sounding like a declaration of war against the dumbing down and spiritual hollowing out of all fundamental values, "Gegenwind" resonates. The sounds blend organically. The band is not merely an accompaniment to the singer-songwriter; they skillfully add accents. In "Voglfrei," a jaw harp drives the sung-about poacher from "Filzmoos üba Goisern" forward, just as in "I bin so frei," the harmonica and flute do so with a self-righteous conspiracy-theory narrator. In between, an accordion lulls one into deceptive bliss. In "Wettalärchn," a saxophone accompanies a boy into adulthood. This mix of dialect poetry and various musical styles, utilizing 30 instruments, is presented by a seasoned, heartfelt live band that has been finely tuned over the decades, with the pieces connected by the legendary "Gschichtln" of singer Fritz Messner.
