In 1996, Matthias Georg Kendlinger launched this tour – one of the most successful in music history with over a million visitors to date: Matthias Georg Kendlinger, founder of the K&K Philharmoniker, the K&K Ballet, and the K&K Opera Choir. Together with his ensembles, he receives bravos and standing ovations, among others, in the concert halls of Madrid, Zurich, Oslo, Paris, Berlin, and the Vienna Musikverein. Kendlinger assembles the program anew each year, directs the rehearsals, and is often seen at the podium. Alternating conductors include his son Max Kendlinger, Taras Lenko, and Ihor Muravyov. In selected cities, Kendlinger's K&K Ballet can also be experienced – co-founded by the unforgettable Viennese choreographer Gerlinde Dill, who choreographed for the world-famous New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic for over two decades. From 2009 to 2020, Viktor Litvinov, former ballet master of the Kyiv Opera, followed in her footsteps. The ballet master for this year's tour will once again be the dancer and choreographer Marianna Stankevych.
In addition to the unmistakable evergreen pieces of the Strauss dynasty, the program traditionally features various rarities. Refreshing humor is also a hallmark of this concert series. This season, audiences can look forward to the polkas Who Dances With Me?, Vélocipède, and Letting Go!, the grand waltzes Watercolors, Dynamides, and Village Swallows from Austria … and of course, the obligatory encores of the Blue Danube Waltz and Radetzky March. All in all: The Vienna Johann Strauss Concert Gala enchants its audience, even on Danish television DR and ZDF, where it has been broadcast multiple times. Many delicacies can be found on the YouTube channel of Kendlinger's K&K Philharmonikers and the numerous Strauss CDs and DVDs – available in the K&K Philharmoniker shop.
