Short tour "Eye-catcher" at Lorsch Abbey: Book Art of the Middle Ages

Medieval manuscripts are sometimes preserved in full and sometimes only as fragments. They can be found in bound form (codex) or as scrolls (rotulus); some are lavishly and colorfully decorated with impressive images, while others are quite plain but contain very significant content.
This small lecture series focuses on exciting manuscripts and showcases the wide range of medieval book art.
We will be using so-called “facsimiles” from our collection. These are detailed, photographic reproductions of original medieval manuscripts.
