At just 18 years old, Tobias Renggli simply sets off – cycling through all the countries of Europe, visiting every capital, and climbing the highest mountain in each one. Alone, on his bike and on foot, without a tent. Instead, he carries a lot of wanderlust and youthful recklessness in his backpack. 36,000 kilometers, half a million meters of elevation gain, seven months – through snow, heat, loneliness, and exhaustion. What starts as a journey between high school graduation and university becomes an adventure far beyond all borders: bears in Romania, a snowstorm in Finland, arrest at the border to Belarus, drug dealers in Montenegro. Tobias sleeps outdoors, covers 180 kilometers a day, encounters hospitality, dangers – and himself. Only at the end does he realize: It was never about arriving.
