Wachaubahn – Past and Future on the Rails?

The Wachaubahn, one of the historic local railways in Lower Austria, was once the lifeline for towns along the Danube. Its nearly 35 km long route connects Krems with Emmersdorf and was opened in 1909 to facilitate trade, commuter traffic, and tourism alike. At its peak, the railway transported hundreds of people daily and was central to the economic development of the region.
