Kick-off of the Schwetzingen SWR Festival with a magnificent young cellist

The prologue of the Schwetzingen SWR Festival is traditionally the start of wonder: This season, it is again young musicians, Arne Zeller and Jacopo Giovannini, who showcase their talents here. At just under twenty years old, cellist Arne Zeller has already won first prizes at several international competitions. His playing, both powerful and elegant, recently impressed a jury in Budapest, where he managed to stand out as the youngest participant among top competitors. He is currently refining his skills with Frans Helmerson at the renowned Kronberg Academy. Zeller's concert program is characterized by his special curiosity and versatility. In Clara Schumann's songs op. 13, he lets the cello sing with longing. The Lieux retrouvés by contemporary British composer Thomas Adès demand a keen adaptability from him: intensity, virtuosity, grand gestures, and fragile delicacy alternate in close proximity. Finally, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's second cello sonata is a romantic jewel full of exuberant enthusiasm. Without a doubt: the prologue of a more than promising career.

Organizer: Kulturstiftung Rhein-Neckar-Kreis e. V. in cooperation with SWR Kultur and Schwetzingen SWR Festival.
