The solo clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic, Daniel Ottensamer, invites you on an exciting musical journey with his trio. A clarinet trio, consisting of clarinet, cello, and piano, can play Beethoven and Brahms. However, with the two trios by these composers, we already reach the territory of the familiar. The rest is an adventure, and thus the trio led by the solo clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic, Daniel Ottensamer, invites you on a journey into the unknown. Or into the blue, because if one were to assign the clarinet to an era, it would be the age of the blue flower, the Romantic period. The program features a work by Nino Rota, who is primarily known as a film composer. The Russian composer Mikhail Glinka pays homage to the Italian Belcanto in his trio, which he completely fell in love with during a trip to Italy in his late twenties. The seven Balkan dances by Serbian composer Marko Tajčević, originally composed for solo piano, combine traditional folk dance with late Romantic sounds. Jörg Widmann entrusts the midnight chimes of the church tower clock to the piano in his nocturne. And in the end, we also get to know the Viennese pianist and composer Carl Frühling, and in his deeply romantic trio, the clarinet is allowed to do what it does best: sing in wide arcs.
