Schwetzingen SWR Festival: Suitcase Music Theater

A special Mother's Day concert featuring the string quartet of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and actor Luis Hergón. Often, small means are enough to evoke great emotions in music – for example, four string players and a suitcase full of artfully crafted masks. In this suitcase music theater, inspired by Commedia dell’arte, a quartet from the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and actor Luis Hergón take the audience on a journey through various emotional worlds. For each emotion, there is the appropriate music with well-known works from the string repertoire, ranging from Vivaldi to Bartók. Throughout the concert, the audience will also get to know the four musicians and their instruments more closely. Commedia dell’arte is a form of theater that originated in Italy in the 16th century, characterized by improvised performances, physical comedy, and stereotypical masked characters – such as the cheerful and curious Arlecchino or the energetic and boastful Capitano. Luis Hergón studied the performance techniques of Commedia dell’arte at the Accademia Teatrale in Venice. In the unique setting of the Schwetzingen Palace Garden, he will bring this ancient theater tradition to life with great enthusiasm: a Mother's Day concert experience for young and old alike.
