Visitors to the festival are welcome to bring their own snacks

On Thursday evening, April 30, 2026, starting at 5:30 PM, the Maypole festival will kick off in the Kurpark next to the Kurhaus Sasbachwalden. At 6:30 PM, the Maypole will be raised in traditional fashion by the local customs group and local carpenters.

The Saschwaller customs group organizes the festival, and the catering will follow a slightly different concept: drinks will be available, while visitors are encouraged to bring their own snacks or dinner, tablecloths, perhaps some table decorations, and a candlelight, depending on their preferences. The customs group will provide seating with tables and benches, allowing festival-goers to choose their cozy spot in the idyllic Kurpark with their brought snacks. This makes celebrating in a group with colleagues, family, friends, or acquaintances even more enjoyable. There will also be small snacks available for purchase.

"The Maypole raising is meant to be a festival where the village truly comes together," explains Elvira Doll, the leader of the customs group, "but we also warmly welcome our holiday guests and other festival visitors." In the spirit of the upcoming "Labor Day," local craftsmen, innkeepers, merchants, service providers, guest room landlords, and business people, as well as the numerous and very active clubs and all Saschwaller residents, holiday guests, and other festival visitors are invited to participate in the Maypole raising.

Before the Maypole, the main attraction of the evening, stands upright, the young men and Saschwaller carpenters in their guild costumes must first get to work in the traditional manner: Using long wooden levers, they will hoist the Maypole, which has been transported on the axle wheels of a ladder cart with Schiller's Hanomag tractor, into the air. Then, in the month of May, it will be adorned with colorful ribbons, greeting all the lovely people in the village from the Kurpark.

This impressive Maypole raising spectacle will begin at 6:30 PM in the Kurpark next to the Kurhaus Sasbachwalden. After the Maypole raising, around 7:00 PM, there will be entertainment music and perhaps a surprise or two. The organizing customs group Sasbachwalden looks forward to the Maypole raising with many festival visitors.
