Classic tour: City museum in the old castle

The tour of the Münsingen Town Museum takes you back to another era, when the Counts of Württemberg still ruled and Münsingen gradually developed into the small town we know today. The so-called "Old Castle," which was built around 1485 above the town by the Counts of Württemberg and was also used as a granary for a time, now houses the Münsingen Town Museum on its second floor, with an exhibition on the history and culture of the Münsingen Alb. The town's former local history museum can now look back on over 100 years of history. Starting with the founding of an antiquities collection by the Münsingen merchant Carl Schoell in 1912, the museum has always presented itself in a style that reflects the spirit of the times. In 2009, it was thoroughly modernized and redesigned to mark the 1200th anniversary of Münsingen. Visitors can expect an impressive presentation of the history of Münsingen and its districts, as well as the cultural history of the Münsinger Alb. The main themes are archaeology and urban development, evidence of civic culture and urban trade, peasant culture, religion, and customs. The "Münsinger Vertrag" (Münsingen Treaty), which is significant in the history of the state, is the central theme. Its signing in Münsingen on December 14, 1482, overcame the existing division of Württemberg. A museum film provides information about the significance of the treaty. Guided tours are free of charge. Only the admission to the museum (€2 per person) must be paid.
