Schlosshof 2, 72525 Münsingen

The tour of the Münsingen City Museum takes you back to a different time. When the Württemberg counts ruled and Münsingen gradually became the small town we know today. The so-called "Old Castle," built around 1485 above the then town by the Württemberg counts and at times used as a granary, now houses the Münsingen City Museum on the second floor, showcasing the history and culture of the Münsinger Alb. The former local museum of the town can now look back on over 100 years of history. Starting with the establishment of an antiquities collection by the Münsingen merchant Carl Schoell in 1912, the museum has continually evolved in the style of the respective era. In 2009, it was fundamentally modernized and redesigned in celebration of Münsingen's 1200th anniversary. Visitors can expect an impressive presentation of the history of Münsingen and its districts, as well as the cultural history of the Münsinger Alb. Key themes include archaeology and urban development, evidence of civic culture and urban trades, peasant culture, as well as religion and customs. A central focus is the historically significant "Münsinger Contract," whose signing on December 14, 1482, in Münsingen overcame the existing division of Württemberg. A museum film informs about the significance of the contract. The tours are free of charge; only the entrance to the museum (2 euros per person) must be paid.
