International Women's Day: Themed Tour "Women in the Surroundings of Lorsch Monastery"

The monks at the Lorsch Monastery lived a life of obedience, humility, poverty, and chastity within the monastery walls. Nevertheless, they were "confronted" with various women from all walks of life. As empresses, queens, nobles, nuns, or peasant women, these women left their mark on the Lorsch Monastery. They appear in historical sources in various roles: as benefactors, wives, pilgrims, healers, political advisors, or laborers. They accompanied their husbands in signing documents, served as advisors in political activities, sought refuge with the Lorsch monks, and were sometimes buried in the monastery. The main focus of the tour is on these women.
