Mira Perusich brings together languages, sounds, and stories on her new album "Svića." The Vienna-based musician with Burgenland-Croatian roots navigates between pop, traditional music from Southeast Europe, and her own compositional designs. Her songs are created in several languages – Burgenland-Croatian, English, and German – reflecting an identity composed of various cultural spaces. Some songs connect lines from multiple languages, such as "Nugao Pameti / The Corner," while others bring dialect and Croatian together, like "G’spannt Sei." In "Svića" (Light/Candle), Mira Perusich tells of her return to her Burgenland-Croatian identity. The intertwining of linguistic levels is not an effect but part of a biographical narrative that allows for both closeness and distance.
Musically, Perusich focuses on voice, piano, and loop station – the tools with which she shapes her songs. Her voice appears in multifaceted, choral layers, while the piano plays with rhythmic patterns and clear motifs. The themes revolve around hope, memory, and the search for a personal place, also shaped by the minority perspective from which the artist tells her story.
After the digital EP "The Corner – Nugao pameti," the album "Svića" will be released digitally and on CD in April 2026. At the Sargfabrik, Mira Perusich will present her new pieces live for the first time with a band and special guests (to be announced).
Mira Perusich – voice, piano, loop station/effects; Marie Shirin Schweiger – bass, synth bass, backing vocals; David Mandlburger – guitar, backing vocals; Lan Sticker – drums.
