"The Stutterers and Metal"

"Anyone who has experienced 'Die Strottern' will not be able to forget them. Their Viennese songs nestle into the heart and mind. The Viennese song also works wonderfully outside the Danube metropolis." (Jury statement for the awarding of the German World Music Prize RUTH) For 30 years now, Klemens Lendl and David Müller have been dusting off the Viennese song both musically and thematically so thoroughly that a local song tradition has evolved into music that is understood and loved all over the world. When "Die Strottern" expand into a quartet with "Blech," their music draws even closer to the great counterpoints of their sound: the sonic diversity of the metropolis and (Alpine) folk music. Trumpet and trombone play a crucial role in both worlds. Thus, the range is wide, freedoms are radically explored, and familiar harbors are approached more directly. Tenderness becomes more tender, wildness wilder.
