The novel "The Greater Hope" is considered the main work of Ilse Aichinger. As a child, she escaped persecution by the Nazis while hiding in Vienna. The experiences of persecuted and hidden children form the content of the book. It is an incredibly moving book, a key work of Austrian post-war literature, published in 1948. The radio play adaptation created by Anne Bennent for Ö1 and the Mandelbaum Verlag serves as the basis for this evening. Her voice corresponds with the sober conciseness of Aichinger's texts. The music also allows the powerful language to unfold, with accordion and percussion subtly underscoring and complementing the text.
