Museum Day

On Museum Day, both museums will be open from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. **The Bindhaus** is housed in a half-timbered building dating from 1499 and focuses on local and regional themes. It is home to the local history and crafts museum. Exhibition themes include: Pfullendorf Carnival, traditional crafts, agriculture, customs, and 19th-century home life. Also on display are a pharmacy, a general store, a schoolroom from our grandparents’ time, and the military history of the Bundeswehr, past and present. **The Old House**, Museum of Pfullendorf’s City History, is one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks. It impresses not only because of its date of construction—1317—making it one of the oldest residential buildings in southern Germany—but also due to its floor plan, its unique construction style, and its massive half-hipped roof covered with hollow tiles. Fourteen thematic information panels explain the history of the Imperial City from its beginnings to the end of the 19th century. Various models, objects from the city’s history, and important documents bear witness to bygone eras and illustrate the city’s development. Another section of the museum showcases the Pfullendorf Guild Charter of 1383. Among other items, unique historical guild lanterns are on display, illustrating the enormous significance of the craft guilds in the Imperial City. In the basement of the “Alte Haus,” visitors will find an exhibition on the city’s defense and judicial system. The “Alte Haus” also provides space for rotating special exhibitions.
