Paradise and Nativity Play
We warmly invite you to experience the traditional Oberufer Christmas plays on December 16th at 7:30 PM in our festival hall. The Oberufer Christmas plays are a long-standing tradition at our school. Originally from the 19th century, they were rediscovered on the Danube island of Schütt (now part of Bratislava) and performed in an almost forgotten Danube Swabian dialect. These unique plays, which connect the old with the new in their original form, tell the Christmas story in a very special way and allow us to deeply immerse ourselves in the festive significance of Christmas.
The Paradise play narrates the creation story and the expulsion from Paradise, serving as the prelude to the Christmas plays. It is performed each year by our 10th-grade students. The Nativity play, a gift from colleagues at the Waldorf campus in Heilbronn to the school community, tells the story of the birth of Christ and touches with its deep spirituality.
We look forward to sharing this special tradition with you and getting into the Christmas spirit together. There will be a short break between the two performances.
