The Theresien Tower

Since 1940, an air defense tower has stood at Theresienwiese, which became a refuge for many in the last months of World War II. After the war, the tower provided sleeping places for people on the run or passing through. A guided tour of the tower takes you back to this time. Discover with us a true treasure of the city: the distinctive high bunker at Theresienwiese. Built in the autumn of 1940, this high bunker stands as a silent witness to a time marked by air raids and the need for protection. Unique in its kind, it is the only high bunker specifically constructed for air protection in Heilbronn during World War II. A remarkable detail of its history is the entrance, which was once at ground level and accessible via a bridge that led from the slaughterhouse across Theresienstraße. After the war, the bridge was removed, significantly restricting access to the tower. Join us on this journey through time and immerse yourself in the moving history of the Theresien Tower, which today serves not only as a memorial but also as a place of remembrance and learning. To use this service, the ticket must be purchased in advance. Bus and light rail can then be used three hours before the tour and afterward until the end of service.
