TrÜP Tour: "Wild Nature and Tree Stories" in Gorge Forest and Pasture Land

Wild Nature and Tree Stories Full-Day Tour 9 km

This hike takes us through a core zone of the Swabian Jura Biosphere Reserve and over the rugged, non-public northwestern part of the former Münsingen military training area. We begin our hike in the wild Brucktal with its protected forest, allowing us to experience various biotopes: slope and gorge forests, floodplain forests with tall herb communities, block screes, and landslides. We encounter a mushroom from which one can make hats or fire, and that can also spin. Finally, we understand what trees have to do with churches and what our gut bacteria have in common with tree lichens.

Next, we head up to Dolldorf, into the non-public area of the military training ground, where a completely different, barren landscape awaits us. A piece of cultural and military history of the training area is, of course, also part of the experience if we want to understand the original nature of the site. We find rare plants of the limestone grasslands and come across huge ancient trees. Here, we also learn about the symbiotic relationship between ants and butterflies and get to know their hunchbacked relatives. We enjoy the tranquility and seclusion of the place, accompanied only by the wind and the chirping of birds. Our gaze drifts to the former outpost of the Bebenhausen Monastery in the distance, where whisky is now distilled. Perhaps we will also encounter sheep with Spanish ancestors.

Then we descend into Katzental with its gorge forest, and after crossing the armored ring, we move over to the upper part of Brucktal. Here, we dry-footedly encounter the remnants of the Jurassic Sea and the site where two children's skeletons were found in an ancient cave. Their souls are watched over by ravens.

Saturated with impressions, we hike back to the starting point in Fischburgtal. And these are just a few of the great and small attractions we will experience on this hike!

Requirements: sturdy footwear, surefootedness, weather-appropriate clothing, long pants, possibly rain/sun protection, seating pad, drinks and snacks to bring along, outdoor break for refreshments.
