TrÜP Tour: Red Kites and Ravens

In the Realm of the Ravens Easy hike of about 5 hours in total, approximately 8 km and 100 meters of elevation gain We will hike through an ancient pasture landscape on the former military training ground, the southern Münsinger Hardt, to the Falkenhausen Tower. In the past, it served to observe exercises with artillery, as one could see both the guns and the impacts from up there. Now, the ravens have discovered it as a nesting site, and therefore, one can only approach it after the official end of the breeding season (August 1). It is no longer accessible and is falling into disrepair, as it has not been used for a long time. With a bit of luck, one might also see a raven. It is the largest corvid in Europe: adult birds can have a wingspan of up to 2 meters. Red kites have also discovered this semi-open pasture landscape and can often be seen in large numbers. We will return along an old post coach road. Some avenue trees and the shelter of the sentry, who allowed the post coach to enter and exit the area, still bear witness to the military past. Good footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, sun protection, and enough food and drink for 5 hours are necessary. Children and adolescents can only participate when accompanied by a legal guardian. The tour is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
