And yet, we like to push it far away from us. This exhibition brings it right into the center – gently, confrontationally, humorously, and radically honestly. Because: We all have to die. So let’s talk about it before it’s too late.
How do we, as a society, deal with death – and how do we deal with it personally? What has changed, what is repressed, what remains? From taboo to a new culture of mourning, from traditions to extraordinary trends in the funeral industry. Linz also has its own stories and places of dying – famous, touching, special. Installations, objects, and artworks from the collection and on loan create spaces for shared reflection, empathy, and pause.
Death has many faces. In this exhibition, we come close to them. Without fear. With respect. With curiosity. And perhaps with an unexpected smile. An exhibition that lives. And tells of dying.
