TOURDATA

Erinnerungsstraße 1, 4310 Mauthausen

From spring 1941, sick and weakened prisoners of the concentration camps became victims of a centrally organized murder operation. They were selected by medical commissions and murdered in the killing facilities of "Action T4." From August 1941, prisoners from Mauthausen and Gusen were transported to the Hartheim killing facility for extermination. During the course of the operation, the scope of selection was also extended to political prisoners, Jews, those categorized as "asocial," and Soviet prisoners of war. Approximately 5,000 prisoners from Mauthausen and Gusen were murdered in Hartheim with carbon monoxide until 1944. The focus of the tour is on the biographies of victims of the operation, whose stories often do not end with their murder. Relatives often fought for decades later for the recognition of their relatives as victims of the Nazi regime.
