Thematic Tour: Telling Stories. Archaeology at Concentration Camp Memorials

The tour of the exhibition of the same name at the Mauthausen Concentration Camp Memorial (March – October 2026) introduces visitors to the world of archaeological research at former concentration camp sites. Through selected artifacts from Mauthausen and its subcamps, it demonstrates how material remains provide insights into the daily lives, structures, and history of violence in the camps. Participants will learn about the methods used by archaeologists and the questions they pose to the objects. Together, it becomes evident that objects are more than mere relics – they are testimonies of human experiences, memories, and inequalities. The tour invites participants to rediscover the stories of these objects.
