Thematic tour: Day of Remembrance for the Genocide of the Roma and Sinti

Few population groups in Austria were as profoundly affected by the National Socialist persecution and extermination policies as the Roma and Sinti. As early as 1939, the first members of this ethnic group were interned in the Mauthausen concentration camp. Defamed as "asocial," the few survivors faced bureaucratic harassment and social exclusion for decades afterward. The tour situates the persecution history of an ethnic group at the historical site of the crime.
