TOURDATA

Erinnerungsstraße 1, 4310 Mauthausen

Among the victims of the Mauthausen concentration camp was an unspecified number of individuals whom we today describe as LGBT+ or queer. Most of those who were imprisoned due to their sexual orientation did not survive their time in captivity. The focus of the tour is on selected biographies of individuals who were persecuted as "homosexuals" by the Nazi regime and were deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp. In 1984, the first memorial plaque for homosexual victims of National Socialism was unveiled at the memorial site. During the tour, we will discuss identity and gender roles, sexuality and self-determination, persecution and violence, as well as recognition and remembrance.
