Deix fans can closely examine the originals of the enfant terrible of the Austrian cartoon scene at the Karikaturmuseum Krems. In the museum's own Deix archive, nearly 60 caricatures by the artist, which reveal the depths and shallows of the Austrian soul, are presented in pull-out archive drawers. Visitors explore a newly curated selection each year, featuring favorite works as well as rarely shown cartoons.
In 2026, the Deix archive will be part of the exhibition "Oliver Schopf. Nothing but the Truth." Visitors will discover thematically related Deix works on Austrian domestic politics, prominent trials, and criminal cases. This includes the "black widow" Elfriede Blauensteiner, the letter bomb attacker Franz Fuchs, and Helmut Elsner, who played a central role in the BAWAG trial. Legendary prison drawings complement the selection. Hunting scenes and the cartoon "Gerhard Haderer lays an egg," which refers to Haderer's controversial cartoon book "The Life of Jesus," relate to the other exhibitions. For the 25th anniversary of the Karikaturmuseum Krems, original sketches for the bronze sculptures Mr. and Mrs. Austrian in the museum square will also be presented, along with three works created for the museum's opening in 2001, including a variation of the popular Cat King.
Short texts provide exciting additional information about current events and the backgrounds of selected Deix cartoons. The digital Deix archive displays digitized originals of the annually changing presentations of the Deix archive in the museum foyer. The digital Deix archive has been supplemented and expanded since 2024. The presented originals come from the provincial collections of Lower Austria.
