Thematic tour: Agents of the SOE (Special Operations Executive) in the Mauthausen concentration camp

Among the prisoners of the Mauthausen concentration camp system were also agents of the SOE (Special Operations Executive), which was founded in 1940 under Winston Churchill in Great Britain. The goals of the SOE, which was divided into country departments, included reconnaissance, sabotage, propaganda, and support for resistance groups in areas that were within the sphere of influence of the Axis powers. Most of the agents trained for this subversive warfare came from the countries where they were later deployed. The organization was officially dissolved in 1946 after World War II, and the experiences and expertise gained during its operations were partially transferred to the foreign intelligence service MI6. As part of the thematic tour, participants will trace this group of prisoners who were incarcerated in Mauthausen and mostly murdered after a short time.
