For more than four decades, Herbert Höpfl has roamed the jazz, blues, rock, and pop scene – amassing a treasure trove of stories that one could not invent. Musicians, as is well known, are a unique breed: sometimes warm-hearted, sometimes grumpy, sometimes world-famous or delightfully diva-like, but often simply blessed with a great sense of humor.
In his anecdotes, one encounters legends such as Wolfgang Ambros, Georg Danzer, Joe Zawinul, Karl Ratzer, Eric Burdon, Georgie Fame, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Dave Brubeck, as well as Woodstock legends like Arlo Guthrie or Ralph Towner. But equally important are the small, almost overlooked moments behind the scenes – those witty remarks and casual scenes that bring laughter, surprise, or make the special magic of a life with music palpable.
And of course, it is all told in the typical Höpfl style – charming, pointed, and with a flair that is hard to replicate.
