The exhibition at the Bauernhaus-Museum Allgäu-Oberschwaben Wolfegg brings the significant theme of migration into the present and recent past through the history of "guest work" in rural areas. Young, dynamic, and eager to perform – these were the young people from Mediterranean countries who came to Oberschwaben around 60 years ago and stayed. The new exhibition at the Bauernhaus-Museum Allgäu-Oberschwaben Wolfegg presents the history of "guest work" in rural areas, addressing the major theme of migration in the present and recent past. Multimedially and creatively designed, the exhibition offers something for every age group: former labor migrants, their descendants, and other contemporary witnesses share their experiences of finding their way in a "foreign" land and settling in the region. A filing cabinet imitation showcases the colorful business landscape of the 1950s to 1970s across various industries, while a county relief map brings the industrial working world of that time in rural areas to life. Throughout, the exhibition explores the question: How does the foreign become familiar?
