Young, dynamic, and eager to work—these were the young people from Mediterranean countries who came to Upper Swabia around 60 years ago and stayed. The new exhibition at the Allgäu-Oberschwaben Farmhouse Museum in Wolfegg uses the history of "guest workers" in rural areas to explore the important topic of migration in the present and recent past. Multimedia and imaginatively presented, the exhibition has something to offer for every age group: former migrant workers, their descendants, and other contemporary witnesses talk about their experiences of finding their way in a "foreign" country and arriving in the region. A replica filing cabinet shows the colorful corporate landscape of the 1950s to 1970s in many industries, and a relief map of the district brings the industrial working world of the countryside at that time to life. Throughout, the exhibition explores the question: How does the unfamiliar become familiar?
