Bold, innovative, outstanding: the Canadian Ballet BC has represented a distinctive style since its founding in 1986. In addition to iconic choreographies from the late 20th and early 21st centuries, it particularly focuses on new creations by international choreographers. This is also the case this evening. Under the artistic direction of Medhi Walerski, the ensemble presents three highly diverse contemporary works. Each one is full of creative energy and artistic variety. "Frontier" by Crystal Pite leads into the unknown; it is a dance dialogue with doubt. "SWAY," Medhi Walerski's lyrical dance piece, transforms Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope is the thing with feathers" into fleeting, poetic images with fluid transitions between duets and ensemble. And in "BOLERO X," Shahar Binyamini brings Ravel's masterpiece together with a physically intense choreography, where 24 dancers explore the tension between individuality and the collective.
