Music Band Franui & Nicholas Ofczarek: Holzfällen
After the sensational success at the Burgtheater, Thomas Bernhard's novel "Holzfällen" is being presented for the first time in a stage adaptation by and featuring Nicholas Ofczarek and the Music Band Franui in Bregenz. The novel centers around a narrator who, from the distance of his armchair, observes an "artistic evening gathering" in Vienna's Gentzgasse and dissects it with malicious precision. The assembled crowd is waiting for the announced arrival of a Burgschauspieler (a Burg Theatre actor); moreover, most of the individuals in this gathering are connected to each other because their friend Joana, who had taken her own life, was buried that afternoon in the village of Kilb.
Thomas Bernhard's famous prose is brought to life in a recitative style by Nicholas Ofczarek, while the musicians of Franui will be heard performing a specialty that has made them known: the celebration of funeral marches and funeral music.
