"On the Move: Migration and Cross-Cultural Encounters" is a collection of short stories that explores the experiences of people from diverse backgrounds and generations in relation to migration, identity, and injustice. Recommended for ages 16 and up. In "ON THE MOVE: MIGRATION AND CROSS-CULTURAL ENCOUNTERS," various short stories addressing migration, identity, and injustice are presented. These include: Sefi Atta's "GREEN," which discusses the importance of the color green in relation to an American GREEN CARD. Andrea Levy's "LOOSE CHANGE," which focuses on the relationship between two sisters in Caribbean culture and addresses social inequality in the UK. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's "THE THING AROUND YOUR NECK," which describes the unequal relationship between a Black woman from Nigeria and a wealthy heir from America. Luis Alberto Urrea's "THE SOUTHSIDE RAZZA IMAGE FEDERATION CORPS OF DISCOVERY," tells the story of Shadow and Junior, two boys of Mexican descent who believe they are American citizens. Shadow, who was smuggled into America illegally as a child, is deported back to Mexico. Kit De Waals' "EXTERIOR PAINT" narrates the story of Lilian (white) and Alfons (Black) and their lives in Birmingham, England, in 1965. Alfons fears for his life if he continues the relationship. Inspired by a visit from Malcolm X, he decides to take Lilian as his wife. Neel Mukherjee's "THE SOLDIER'S TALE" tells the story of Salim and his hope for a life free from fear and oppression. In the end, he sees almost no differences between his soldier life in Eritrea and his existence in Italy or England... A guest performance by the American Drama Group.
