Capercaillie lek on mountain heights

On each feather an eye, so well does he see, is what they say about the shy capercaillie. His rolling and hissing courtship calls are audible from afar. Even before dawn, you will ascend with the ranger up to the tree line and listen to the fascinating courtship sounds as the males woo the females. To avoid disturbing the courtship, we will not approach any closer than about 300 meters. After the morning excursion, we will return to Villa Sonnwend and enjoy a hearty breakfast. Equipment: mountain shoes, gaiters, weatherproof warm and durable clothing, rain protection, a spare shirt or sweater, hat, gloves, seating pad, headlamp, small snack and (warm) drink, possibly binoculars and hiking poles.

Requirements: The guided tours on fixed dates are reserved for private individuals. Groups of 10 or more, companies, schools, or other organizations are asked to contact the respective visitor center.
