TOURDATA

Anzenbach, 4462 Reichraming

The Kalkalpen National Park is the most significant forest national park in the Alps. With its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is part of a Europe-wide project to protect the last remaining beech primeval forests. These ancient forests, with their diversity, are a natural treasure. Here, primeval forest species such as the Alpine longhorn beetle and the white-backed woodpecker find a home. Difficulty: Medium (good fitness required)

On this day tour, we first hike along the Wilderness Trail Buchensteig and then continue uphill through the Wilden Graben. To return to the starting point, we follow historical paths through the Weißenbachtal. Noteworthy are the ancient UNESCO World Heritage forests. In the Weißenbach, it is also evident how quickly nature reclaims areas, whether it be an abandoned settlement or the former forest road to the Ebenforstalm, which was washed away by flooding in 2002.

Time & Duration: approximately 9 hours (pure walking time about 5-6 hours/17 km/700 m elevation gain)
