Saturday Music | La Trifora

In the program "Music Without Borders" – Exploring Textless Instrumental Pieces from the Middle Ages, we delve into textless instrumental music from Italy and France, drawn from three of the most famous medieval manuscripts: from the Manuscrit du Roi (14th century) to the London Codex (late 14th/early 15th century) and the Codex Faenza (15th century). To provide insight into the practice of historical percussion, percussion improvisations will complement the program. Since we all met as an ensemble during our studies abroad, travel is a common theme among us. One could almost say that we have been inspired by the clerici vagantes or the goliardi, who traveled abroad to follow their teachers. In assembling the program, we became aware of what a privilege it is to know all this music that has been passed down over centuries and across borders, which has changed over time and no longer exists today – to celebrate this, we decided to unite different styles of the medieval period in one concert. We aim to highlight the differences and connections between the pieces and enchant the audience with the beauty of sounds from bygone times.
