What would Mödling be without Josef Schöffel?
The savior of the Vienna Woods ensured that the Vienna Woods would not be deforested. He did a lot for the city.
Speaking of the city - during his time as mayor, Mödling was elevated to city status. However, he was often referred to as a tyrant, a pasha, a mogul of Mödling. This was because he sometimes implemented his innovations against the will of the conservative population. Innovations such as gas lighting, water supply, sewage systems, and road paving led to Mödling becoming a fashionable summer resort in the 19th century.
During the tour, we learn about the problems in Mödling at that time and the solutions proposed by Josef Schöffel.
