An evening dedicated to (court) citrus culture, the architecture of the Schwetzingen Orangeries, and etiquette, enjoyment, and society from the 18th century to the present day, including a tasting. Bright orange, rich yellow, vibrant green: citrus fruits bring color to gray German winters. Those who could afford it brought these precious plants into their own "homes" as early as the 18th century. This was also true for the Electors of Schwetzingen: citrus trees in numerous varieties were part of the essential equipment of their princely gardens and wintered in the light-flooded orangery of Schwetzingen Palace. The electoral court not only appreciated extraordinary food; the representative architecture of the orangery also served as a venue for courtly society. As part of the "Museum frei Haus" series, the Karl-Wörn-Haus brings together etiquette, history, and taste. Etiquette expert Eliette von Gemmingen, art historian Dr. Ralf Wagner, and the Schwetzingen Mediterranean Cooking Society will jointly conclude the citrus fruit season. In addition to insights into (courtly) behavior, historical backgrounds, and anecdotes, participants can also look forward to a small tasting of various citrus fruits. The number of participants is limited to 16 people, and registration is required.
