Jun Märkl takes us on a musical adventure full of philosophical depth, virtuosic dialogues, and a wink at classicism. With the monumental C major fanfare from Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra, which also became famous in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, we experience a musical blend of Gregorian chant, sounds of nature, and waltz melodies. Jun Märkl and the Tonkünstler portray Richard Strauss, where the grand tone poem meets the Burlesque, a highly virtuosic work featuring dialogues between orchestra and piano – played by the dynamic pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk. With the dance suite after François Couperin, Strauss also reveals his humorous side. The Ukrainian-Australian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk is internationally renowned for his poetic interpretations. In addition to performances with prestigious orchestras worldwide, he captivates as a soloist in major concert halls and at festivals. Jun Märkl is a sought-after interpreter of the German core repertoire and French Impressionists, currently leading the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and serving as chief conductor of the Residentie Orkest The Hague.
