Tonkunstler Orchestra: Anton Bruckner

The music of Anton Bruckner is one of Yutaka Sado's heartfelt passions. It seems only logical that Bruckner is once again on the program as the former chief conductor returns as a guest to the Tonkünstler podium for the first time. Bruckner's Zero Symphony, which should actually be called the "Cancelled," was not composed before the first symphony, as was long believed, but rather afterward, as a then-withdrawn Second Symphony. It is now considered an essential and characteristic contribution to the series of early symphonies. A comparatively concise yet monumental work from a later period is the Te Deum. Together with the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno and handpicked soloists, the Tonkünstler will celebrate the great praise of God with heavenly hosts.

Yutaka Sado is one of the most significant Japanese conductors. From 2015 to 2025, he served as the chief conductor of the Tonkünstler Orchestra, and since 2023, he has been the chief conductor of the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. His career is marked by close collaboration with Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa, as well as an impressive international career that has taken him to renowned orchestras in Europe, Japan, and the USA.
