How much fun is a marriage crisis? A lot! At least when cult author Nick Hornby tells it. Quickly and pointedly, he lets Tom and Louise – he a music critic, she a doctor – negotiate the everyday madness of their life together. After a dry spell in their sex life and an affair, they try to salvage what can be saved in couples therapy. However, we don’t experience them in the sessions themselves, but rather in the moments in between, both spatially and temporally: Over a reassuring drink at the pub across the street, they quickly outline the topics to be discussed. In clever and fast-paced dialogues, fundamental questions about human love life come up quite casually. And suddenly, things are brought up that everyone who has been in a relationship probably thinks about occasionally – but would certainly never say out loud.
