The Saxonz / Hellerau

Breakdance goes up against ballet, street style competes with contemporary, and hip-hop measures itself against classical dance. On World Dance Day, the successful dance format from TheSaxonz and Hellerau is visiting Linz.

"Floor on Fire" thrives on the individuality of the dancers, their virtuosity, and their limitless creativity. What initially appears to be a competition between different dance styles transforms into mixed dance teams that spontaneously showcase their collective skills on the dance floor. In the end, a jury with audience participation decides on the best team - an experience for both dancers and the audience!

From four crews emerged a movement: The Saxonz were founded in 2013 as a union of the best breakers in Saxony, with the aim of uniting talent, energy, and attitude under a common name. What followed reads like a success story in strobe light: three-time winners of the Battle of the Year, international performances from Asia to America, workshops, films, and art projects. However, more important than trophies is their principle of togetherness - training, originality, solidarity. From this attitude grows a collective style that understands breaking as a lived culture and continually reinvents itself. Today, The Saxonz are among the most influential crews in Germany, precise in movement, open in thought - and long since ambassadors of a generation that shapes attitude from energy.

Where once the idea of music and rhythm was cast into architecture, today pulses a laboratory of the present. Hellerau - European Center for the Arts - is not a house of quiet contemplation, but an open system: stage, workshop, discourse space. Here, dance, music, theater, performance, media, and visual arts intersect, and co-productions, festivals, and debates emerge. Since 1911, the house has shaped the artistic awakening - visionary then, indispensable today. Under the direction of Carena Schlewitt, Hellerau has further established itself as an international center for contemporary arts: around 350 events per year, a network of partners worldwide - and always the question in the room of what art has to do with society.
