According to drummer Mike Calabrese, Lake Street Dive sounds like the attempt to bring The Beatles and Motown together for a party. In fact, the band from the USA has repeatedly expanded the possibilities of pop music with their influences from soul, folk, jazz, and pop, and is well-known for their all-genre approach. This musical idea has allowed the five-member band, which is firmly bonded by friendship, to develop not only across their seven released albums but also on stage, where Lake Street Dive has become a valued live band that has built a strong connection with their audience since day one and has already toured worldwide. With their seventh album "Good Together," the band celebrated a Grammy nomination in 2025 and further showcased their versatility. In the fall of 2026, Lake Street Dive will return to Germany and perform their biggest shows to date in Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin, Munich, and Stuttgart.

Lake Street Dive was formed in 2004 after multi-instrumentalist Mike Olson, singer Rachael Price, bassist Bridget Kearny, and drummer Mike Calabrese met at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Their debut album "In This Episode," released in 2007 and clearly influenced by their jazz studies, revealed the band's sound for the first time. Following the release of their album "Promises, Promises" (2008), the self-titled album "Lake Street Dive" solidified the band's sound and made them more nationally recognized. The 2012 EP "Fun Machine" allowed the band to break through internationally with a sound that blended pop, jazz, and neo-soul, featuring the song "Rich Girl." This was followed by "Bad Family Portrait," which included the jazzy hit "Better Than."

Lake Street Dive demonstrated that while they had found their sound, they were eager to evolve it with their 2019 album "Obviously," on which they, according to Rolling Stone, once again refused to think small with lo-fi-influenced pop and a sense of solitary intimacy. In 2024, "Good Together" followed, stemming from a mindset that the band describes as "joyful rebellion," as drummer Mike Calabrese explains: "There’s a lot to be angry about in this world right now – a lot of pain, anger, and division, but it’s not sustainable to live in that resentment – you need something else to keep you going." Throughout the album, Lake Street Dive reveals the immense diversity of their musicality and expressive imagination. While "Better Not Tell You" brings a 1970s funk influence and dance vibe, "Far Gone" drifts into the realms of psychedelic rock. The fact that the musical tastes of the five members were more divergent than ever at the time of the album's release turned out to be a great advantage, as Price explains: "We manage to bring all these influences together with genuine love and respect for the diversity within the band," which is also rooted in the strong friendship among the individual members. "Everyone has a voice, everyone is heard, and we are all very careful to ensure everyone's satisfaction."
