At the end of February 2026, the Chamber Philharmonic Freiburg will perform again in Müllheim. The program is exceptional and offers the opportunity to discover rarely played works. The concert in Müllheim will take place on Friday, February 27, at 8 PM in the Bürgerhaus. Admission is free. This year's program begins with the overture to "Ruslan and Ludmilla" by Mikhail Glinka. This piece, which introduces the two main characters of the opera of the same name, challenges the orchestra primarily due to the high tempo set by the composer. In contrast, Maurice Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin will present French Impressionism. Just like in painting, this music creates a multi-layered sound world that requires attentive listening and empathy. The highlight of the concert in the second half will be Symphony No. 1 in F-sharp minor by Dora Pejacevic. With the centenary of her death in 2023, the music of this Croatian composer has gained recognition beyond her homeland. The sound language is extraordinary, situated between late Romanticism and early Modernism, with many echoes of Dvořák, and is technically and intonationally very demanding. Both due to the large orchestra and the scale of the work, Symphony No. 1 is a monumental piece that can only be admired rarely.
