Viktoria Kirilova, originally from Bulgaria, has, like many other musicians, moved to Vienna to study, specifically at the MUK (Music and Arts Private University of the City of Vienna, formerly "Conservatory"), and has since enriched the local scene. She describes her first CD under her own name, "Roots & Skies," as "a musical vision that understands jazz as a space for encounter, crossing borders, and searching for identity – between West and East, between 'Roots' and 'Skies.' The pieces tell poetic stories ...." and you can feel that. This fusion of complex jazz harmonies, sophisticated arrangements, and improvisations with the uneven rhythms and sound colors of traditional Bulgarian music touches you; this music has heart and soul and conveys a message!
