Alpinism has changed the way we perceive mountains. While in the past mountains were seen as life-threatening, today they represent a retreat into wild nature and an important space for us where we can find time to breathe again.

Alexander presents current highlights from the fascinating and diverse world of mountains. The incredible images, arranged with captivating film sequences and stirring music, create a unique experience. The first ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786 marked the beginning of the Golden Age of Alpinism. Initially, the peaks of the Alps were the primary targets for climbers, but soon the ridges and difficult walls became the focus. Once the highest peaks on Earth, the eight-thousanders, were climbed, the death of alpinism was proclaimed.

However, mountaineering is still very much alive today! While it was believed in the 1980s that there was nothing new to discover in alpinism, the creativity of today’s protagonists seems to know no bounds.

Whether on rock, ice, or at high altitudes - astonishingly, there is always something new that captivates the alpine public. Border areas beyond the vertical, the eleventh grade in alpine terrain, are no less fascinating than the great walls of the Himalayas and Karakoram.
