Description
If a piece of music reflects the ideals of the USA, it is Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring," premiered in 1944, a classic of American music: nature, community, love, and religion - with the Shaker song "Simple Gifts" glorifying a simple life. Copland's contemporary Samuel Barber was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1963 for his highly virtuosic Piano Concerto. The same level of virtuosity is demanded by Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 from the soloist, who effortlessly masters such challenges: the pianist Yuja Wang, a true phenomenon of our time, hailing from China. The renowned Mahler Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1997 by Claudio Abbado and continues to honor its founder to this day.
