Cornelius Obonya reads and sings poems by the Scottish national poet Robert Burns, translated into Viennese by Dieter Berdel. These poems were not created in the safe confines of an ivory tower, but at the beer tables of taverns in 18th-century Scotland. Joseph Haydn, during his two stays in England and afterwards, joyfully and enthusiastically created over 400 arrangements of these melodies, mostly set to the words of Robert Burns.
Emily Stewart, Bertl Mayer, Peter Rosmanith, and Peter Havlicek view Haydn's music from a contemporary perspective—enriched by Havlicek's compositions—thus laying the perfect groundwork for Obonya's touching and simultaneously humorous interpretations.
