"RETRO-SPECTIVE" Exhibition by Alfred Rameis 45 Years of Intensive Engagement with Art The art of the Steyr artist Alfred Rameis is unmistakable, as he presents works from 45 years of his artistic career under the title "RETRO-SPECTIVE" at the Schlossgalerie Steyr. If one were to describe his paintings with a term, "Abstract Expressionism" would likely be the most fitting. His often large-format paintings forgo any form of representation of reality. The aim of his painting is a sophisticated interplay of surface, form, color, and line, which is intended to create tension in his works and leave room for interpretation. His works are color-reduced, primarily in black and white and earth tones. Rameis describes himself as a black-and-white fetishist – and composes his works with graphic elements and lines, using any medium that seems suitable to him, whether canvas, cardboard, paper, textile, or others. Rameis, a self-taught artist by conviction, a critical observer and thinker, works outside of any mainstream and follows his uncompromising and authentic path in his works, which lie in the realms of painting, graphics, and sculpture. According to his statements, over 1500 works have been created during these decades of his artistic career, which are located in private and public collections, in galleries, hotels, and law firms – thus not only in traditional art spaces. The exhibition, which will be on view from January 28 to February 15, 2026, in the upper rooms of the Schlossgalerie Steyr, promises much of interest.
