Description
One of the most beautiful instrumental concertos, interpreted by one of the leading clarinetists of our time. The Swede Martin Fröst performs the concerto on the instrument for which it was originally intended: the darker-toned basset clarinet. The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is one of those orchestras that participated in the very first festival summer in Grafenegg. Music director Zubin Mehta conducted Gustav Mahler's 7th Symphony at that time. In 2020, Lahav Shani succeeded Mehta in Israel, and to conclude the two-day guest performance, he conducts Mahler's 5th Symphony: The abundance of moods ranges from the military signal and funeral march at the beginning, through the ghostly and natural sounds in the scherzo, to the ecstatic-romantic adagietto and the jubilant finale, encompassing a whole world in tones.
