Völklplatz 1, 3100 St. Pölten

Schubert's "Die schöne Müllerin" was last performed in this context decades ago. Robert Lehrbaumer had brought Peter Schreier with this very song cycle to St. Pölten during his first season as artistic director.

Today, Michael Schade holds a comparably high rank among the most celebrated international tenors. Therefore, it is a particularly great pleasure for us to welcome the world star with this opus.

Originally, this concert was to be accompanied by the German pianist Justus Zeyen, but the internationally renowned musician was unexpectedly taken from us before Christmas. Instead, the British pianist Malcolm Martineau will now take his place at the piano.

Malcolm Martineau is one of the leading British song accompanists internationally and collaborates worldwide with the most significant singers of our time. He has performed in the most prestigious concert and opera houses as well as at leading festivals such as Aix-en-Provence, Salzburg, and Vienna, and has curated his own concert series at the Wigmore Hall and the Edinburgh Festival. His extensive discography includes over 100 recordings, many of which have won awards, including multiple Gramophone, Grammy, BBC Music Magazine, and Diapason d’or accolades.

Like many other Schubert compositions, the first song of this full-length cycle has become a folk song: "Das Wandern ist des Müllers Lust" (Wandering is the Miller's Joy).

High vocal artistry and one of the most famous song works: A particularly impressive concert evening lies ahead.

(Concert without intermission)
