Excursion with the Forest Ranger The ecologically oriented forest policy of the city of Burladingen, under the significant influence of forest ranger Wolfram Schmid, has created a primeval forest around the "Urschwanger Kopf." The protected forest biotope at "Urschwanger Kopf" features a wonderful old beech population, with some specimens over 200 years old, whose trees exhibit numerous woodpecker holes and host a significant population of the tawny owl. The protected area, classified as the key biotope type "forest stand with protected animals," currently covers an area of approximately 9 hectares, which has been permanently removed from management to provide ideal living conditions for the tawny owl. Furthermore, the historical forest landscape of "coppice" can still be observed today. During his forest tour, Wolfram Schmid demonstrates how he can preserve and expand this valuable forest while still generating profit in his forests, which benefits the budget of the city of Burladingen.
